The Regretful Departure
Vinales, a 10-time MotoGP race winner, joined Yamaha from Suzuki in 2017, and his early success was promising. However, as the seasons progressed, he struggled to maintain that winning momentum. In 2018, Vinales faced a dilemma as Yamaha took a different direction with the bike's engine and chassis, contrary to his preferences. He found success at Phillip Island, but the rest of the season was a struggle. It's a decision he now questions: "I kind of regret not staying with Yamaha and choosing Aprilia instead."
The Missed Opportunity?
Vinales believes 2017 was his golden chance to fight for a world title. He recalls the Valencia test, where he rode Lorenzo's bike and set impressive times. He even suggested to Yamaha, "Cover this bike and take it to the first race; it's more than enough." But Yamaha didn't listen, and the subsequent tyre change and grip issues complicated matters.
